Frequently asked questions
How do solar batteries work?
Solar batteries store excess electricity generated by your rooftop solar panels during the day. Instead of sending it back to the grid, the battery holds that energy for later use—like at night or during power outages. This reduces your electricity bills and increases your energy independence.
What batteries and inverters do you use?
We use premium lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries and hybrid inverters from both Each Energy and Fox ESS. Both brands are internationally recognised for reliability, advanced safety features, and strong performance in Australian conditions. Our systems are fully certified, CEC-approved, and backed by long warranties — giving you peace of mind and maximum value.
What is the lifespan of your solar batteries?
Each Energy batteries are rated for:
6,000 cycles at 80% DoD (~16 years at 1 cycle/day)
8,000–10,000 cycles at 50% DoD (~22–27 years)
Design life: 15–20 years under normal residential use
Warranty: 10 years or 6,000 cycles (whichever comes first)
Are your solar batteries safe?
Yes!Our batteries comply with AS/NZS 5139:2019 and are installed by Aldi Solar. Safety features include:
Overcharge, overheat, and fire protection
Dual-layer enclosure
Automatic foam fire suppression
🔋 ABOUT SOLAR BATTERIES AND SYSTEMS
🛠️ TECHNICAL AND INSTALLATION QUESTIONS
What is the difference between AC and DC coupling?
AC-coupled: Solar panels’ DC power is converted to AC before battery storage, meaning the electricity is inverted multiple times.
DC-coupled: DC power flows directly into the battery before being converted for household use—more efficient.
Our standard: AC coupling. DC coupling available for an additional $1,000.
How many backup circuits does the battery support?
Fox ESS supports up to 4 backup circuits. Backup circuits can be added for an additional fee.
What size is your inverter? Can I upgrade it?
Standard: 5kW (max PV 8kW) or 6kW (max PV 9.6kW)
Upgrade: 8kW inverter (max PV 12.4kW) available for $300 extra.
What is the difference between single-phase and three-phase power?
Single-phase: 1 live wire, 230V, used in most homes for small appliances.
Three-phase: 3 live wires, 415V, used in larger homes and businesses for high loads.
Note: Three-phase metering for battery systems incurs a $500 extra charge.
How much space is needed for installation?
Each 10kWh battery measures 630mm (W) x 1460mm (H) x 178mm (D). Batteries are modular and can be stacked to suit your available space.
Where can batteries be installed?
Batteries must be installed in safe, non-habitable locations:
Allowed: Garage (with fire barrier), external wall, battery cabinet (IP-rated, fire compliant)
Not allowed: Bedrooms, lounges, kitchens, stairwells, or exit paths
Minimum clearances apply
From windows/doors/vents: ≥ 600 mm
From ceiling: ≥ 900 mm
From combustible side walls: ≥ 600 mm
Escape routes: ≥ 600 mm and not blocking path
Battery must be mounted on non-combustible surfaces, or a fire barrier added.
📦 PRODUCT & USAGE
How long does installation take after ordering?
Due to high demand under the 'Cheaper Home Batteries' program, installation is typically scheduled around 30 days after your order is placed. No deposit is required.
Are there extra charges for installation?
Standard installation includes 10 metres of wire cabling and AC coupling. Extra charges apply for upgrades or non-standard requirements:
Standard Install Extra / Upgrade Single Phase Three Phase – $500 2 Backup Loads Extra Backup Load – $300 AC Coupling DC Coupling – $1,000 10m Wire Cabling More than 10m – $100/m No Meter Box Modification Additional Meter Box – $500 Within 100km Over 100km from Rosehill Warehouse – $2.5/kmPHS 5kW Inverter PHS 8kW Inverter – $300
Other charges (e.g. for metering upgrades) are quoted as needed.
Is finance available?
We don’t offer in-house finance, but many companies provide green energy loans for batteries and solar panels.
📝 ORDERING AND INSTALLATION PROCESS
What is the product warranty?
Batteries: 10 years
Solar panels: 25 years
Do I need to change energy retailer to use your batteries?
No, you don’t have to. Our batteries are compatible with most energy retailers in Australia.
Solar curtailment will be automatically configured if your system is DC-coupled. If your system is AC-coupled, then the availability of our automated solar curtailment feature will depend on the compatibility of your existing solar inverter.
For AC-coupled systems, load-following curtailment depends on site hardware
1. Load following solar curtailment available
2. Consumption meter also required or curtailment is On/Off
3. For customers with an AC coupled solar system, load-following solar curtailment is available for compatible inverters - SolarEdge, Fronius, Enphase or Sungrow.
